What is St. John’s Wort?
St. John’s Wort also known as Hypericum perforatum is the most common herb sold today. This aromatic yellow herb is found throughout Europe and the United States. How it’s compounds actually work is not yet fully understood, but several theories have been suggested.
What does St. John’s Wort do?
Preliminary studies suggest that St. John's Wort might work by preventing nerve cells in the brain from reabsorbing the chemical messenger serotonin, or by reducing levels of a protein involved in the body's immune system functioning.
How much St. John’s Wort should be taken?
The standard dosage used around the world for St. John’s wort is the same as that used in most of the trials in the British Medical Journal meta-analysis: three 300-mg doses per day of a preparation that contains St. John’s wort extract, standardised to 0.3% hypericin, normally taken over a period of weeks, months, or often much longer.
Our St. John’s Wort is standardised to contain .3% hypericins.
